Define the purpose before you ever start designing.

A ‘bigger kitchen’ or ‘new bedroom’ can mean completely different things depending on the real purpose.
A guest room isn’t the same as a new child’s bedroom. Updating cabinets isn’t the same as opening the space for family togetherness.
Purpose drives design. Skip it and you risk expensive changes and a space that doesn’t quite work.
Simple exercise: Finish this sentence — ‘The purpose of this remodel is to ________ so that ________.’
